When does my order get delivered?
Your order made during the week gets is held until the end of week Sunday Midnight. After Sunday all orders are cut and packed for delivery the Thursday and Friday after the Sunday cut off.
This means that the order you placed is cut, packed and delivered the week following.
How does ordering and delivery work?
Your ordering and delivery timetable is as follows:
Orders are collated from Mondays through to Sunday night cut off. Then after Sunday midnight all orders are collated and processed, your meat is then cut and packed then sent by Air New Zealand and Big Chill to courier depots. Delivery to your address is from Thursday through to Friday, with some Saturday deliveries if necessary. You can always email us with any delivery questions. the courier 0800 number is 0800 771 747. The courier company details are included with the order number.
Who do I contact if my box has not been delivered?
Please check your email for your order number once your order has been paid for at check out. The courier company details are included with the order number. the courier 0800 number is 0800 771 747
What areas do you deliver to?
We deliver New Zealand wide, except to the Chatham Islands and Scott Base!
We do deliver to business and company addresses.
We do not deliver to PO Boxes.
We do deliver to rural addresses or an alternate address. We use alternate addresses if we cannot get the meat to your first address in a reasonable time. You will be advised when we have your order and delivery address on Friday following ordering and whether we need to use the alternate delivery address.
If you need your meat dropped off in a specific spot just let us know by including delivery instructions on your account check out.
How do you deliver and when?
We use the courier network that services your area the best for our deliveries.
All our meat is packed with ice packs in an insulated chilly box to keep your meat chilled both during delivery and also sitting at your door. Please note if the ice pack is thawed or partly thawed when you receive your meat it means it has been doing its job.
What is the Rural Delivery (RD) charge?
There is no extra charge for rural delivery.
The Whale Meat Company supports rural New Zealand with a level playing field for packing and delivery.
How much does delivery cost?
Packing and delivery cost $18.35 including a reusable beer chiller or fish box. If you order two boxes a reduced charge of $12.55 is charged for the second box.
When will I receive my order?
Order before Sunday night at midnight and expect to receive your order Wednesday through Friday the following week.
When you order, you’ll receive a tracking number.
Do you have recurring orders or subscription order capability?
Yes. We are here for your convenience and flexibility.
You can choose from casual ordering or set up a regular weekly/fortnightly/monthly order delivery of your chosen meat selection.
Most Whale Meat customers find the meat box that suits them and then choose an order system that suits their lifestyle.
Your order constitutes an order for an ongoing and regular purchase and delivery of your selection and will, subject to the rights to pause and terminate set out in these terms and conditions, continue indefinitely. You can choose to pause (for a period of time) or terminate (indefinitely) your order.
All these changes can be done through your Account in the top right-hand corner of each page.
You are liable for every order made under your login details.
You can also choose to change a weekly delivery to a fortnightly/monthly delivery and vice versa.
The cut-off day and time for changing your existing order, pausing or cancelling your order is Thursday night before midnight.
How are payments processed?
Whale Meat payments are processed through a secure payment system. Credit card details are stored for recurring payments through the secure payment system, no credit card information is stored by The Whale Meat Company.
What do I do with the Polybox after delivery?
We use polyboxes as the offer the best insulation and we care about food safety for our customers.
Many customers have innovative uses for their polyboxes. For example, they make great fish bins or beer chillers. You can take your beers chilled to your mate's house or party and when you leave you can gift the chilly box. Other enterprising customers use the chiller box as a planter, once they have made holes in the bottom with a hot screwdriver. Still, others use the box to hold all those important things in the boot of your car. You can even fill them with concrete to make blocks.
Polybox uses are only limited by your imagination.
What guarantee does Whale Meat offer?
Cam eats this meat. It is cut and packed by good buggers. Occasionally things go wrong, deliveries get delayed, gee, even earthquakes happen. Can I freeze my Whale Meat?
Yes. Your Whale Meat can either be frozen when you get it or before the shelf life expires. It is vacuum packed so it gives you the flexibility of use either now or later. To use now, place in the bottom of the fridge and use before the shelf life expires.
Does Whale Meat have a vegetarian option?
All our beef cuts are made out of beef that is 100% vegetarian. You can be vegetarian vicariously!
What is the difference between Whale Meat mince and supermarket mince?
Whale Meat mince is made from minced cuts of beef with a lower fat content than most supermarket mince.
Is Whale Meat Gassed?
Whale Meat is not packed under gas or gassed to improve looks, shelf life or quality. We use the best fresh cuts of meat and we make the cuts you order when you order. if you want to know more (or be frightened) google "gasification meat". Rest assure our meat is NOT gassed.
What is the difference between supermarket bacon and Whale Meat bacon?
Whale Meat does not make bacon with a high added water content. Many supermarket bacon brands have a high added water content. This results in the supermarket price, but frying turns into boiling bacon, a poor cooking experience. Whale Meat bacon has the bacon flavour and crispy cooking experience you remember.
Does Whale Meat make its own bacon and ham?
Yes. The Whale Meat factory makes its own bacon and ham and you can certainly taste the difference.
What is the difference between Whale Meat steak and supermarket steak?
Whale Meat steak is packed in a vacuum pack and has not been gassed. This means the meat has not been packed under gas to preserve or enhance it. No Whale Meat is gassed.
When you order Whale Meat you get the best cuts vacuum packed so you can choose how to age it.
How do you age vacuum-packed steaks?
Whale Meat steaks are vacuum packed and they have a shelf life of 20 days when kept in the vac pack chilled at the bottom of your fridge. For better aging keep it chilled and eat when it suits you before the shelf life expires.
What is the shelf life on Whale Meat products?
Shelf life varies according to the product. Please consult the product labels for full information. For example, mince and diced beef have a shelf life of 14 days and steak has a shelf life of 20 days.
Can I eat Whale Meat after its shelf life date?
No. We recommend that the products are eaten or frozen before the best before dates.
Why are Whale Meat chicken kebabs and chicken breasts frozen?
Fresh chicken and fresh chicken kebabs have a very short shelf life. To improve shelf life and reduce any potential issues with chicken, we deliver these products frozen. Please thaw and eat promptly.
Where does Whale Meat come from?
Whale meat comes from whales, however, Whale Meat Company meat is sourced from the finest available cuts of New Zealand beef, lamb, pork and chicken.
Whale Meat used to be sold in NZ and there are a few examples of the packaging from the late 1970s and 1980s that we think are pretty cool.
Is Whale Meat halal?
No. Whale Meat is not halal. The Whale Meat Company does not pay halal religious tax. All Whale Meat is processed in a factory that proudly makes its own hams, bacon and pork cuts. We will not fund jihad through halal certification fees.
We also ensure our meat remains non-halal by shipping a pack of bacon with every box.
Is Whale Meat killed halal?
We are sourcing as much meat as possible from abbatoirs and works that do not pay the halal religious tax. However, the vast majority of NZ meat is killed halal and we do use cuts from these sources. Once it enters the Whale Meat factory it loses all halal status as we proudly make ham, bacon and pork sausages in the Whale meat facility. We will not fund jihad through halal certification fees.
What is the quality control for the Whale Meat?
Your Whale Meat order is processed in a high-grade MPI export licensed, meat processing facility, then quality checked before it is released for packing into your Whale Meat order.
Where is the meat cut and vacuum packed?
Your Whale Meat order is processed and produced in an Export Grade MPI licensed meat processing factory. This factory operates under a RMP (Risk Management Programme) and LMP (Listerian Management programme).
Who packs the meat in the boxes?
The Whale Meat export licensed facility cuts the meat and vacuum packs it, then has the meat packed in a cool room into your insulated box, with ice sheets, it is then sealed in the facility ready for delivery.
Why is the meat packed with ice sheets?
Your meat is packed in an insulated box with ice sheets to maintain a low temperature. These ice sheets in combination with the Whale meat box will work together to keep the meat cool during our planned delivery period.
Does it matter if the ice sheet is melted or partly thawed?
No. The ice sheet is designed to melt or thaw to maintain a low temperature within the meat box.
Do you use any growth enhancers or hormones?
No. The animals grow as they grow. Our animals are free from Hormonal Growth Promotants.
Is your meat real?
Of course it is, we deliver real meat, not some plastic variety made in a lab.
Is your meat free-range?
Yes. Beef and Lamb is pasture fed on the green, green grass of home.
Do you age your beef?
Yes. Our beef is ‘cold boned’ and aged for at least 21 days under vacuum. Beef is Ph tested and further aged for the best eating experience. Your Whale Meat beef steak is then sliced and vacuum packed and continues its ageing process so that when you receive it has been perfectly aged.

What does the shelf life date on the frozen product mean?
Your frozen meat has a fresh “use by” date displayed. This is normal as NZ regulations mean products display a use by date for all products in a chilled state. Whale Meat blast freezes the chilled product promptly, once the meat freezes the chilled shelf life date is no longer relevant as frozen products have a much longer shelf life.
As with all frozen meat, thaw overnight in the fridge or in the microwave and use promptly.
